Kids and Art
We enjoy our relaxation time to escape from the stress of our busy life. We have so much to do and when we get a moment to just enjoy an activity that allows our mind a break from all the things we have to do we feel refreshed and relaxed. We often forget that our kids get stressed too! School is stressful, chores are stressful and just navigating this big world is stressful. In recent years there has been a lot of research done on the benefits of mindfulness techniques with kids and how it helps them refocus and promotes self confidence.
Art allows kids to explore their creative side but at the same time is a form of relaxation without having to practice. Focusing on what colour you are going to use, the repetitive brush strokes and watching something come to life from a blank canvas is a proven therapeutic practice being introduced into many psychology sessions.
I have a 7 year old who has anxiety and is very critical of everything he does, this has been an ongoing struggle with school with many meltdowns surrounding not feeling he can do it! I watched my little guy in a class recently he was focused, happy and finished with confidence – he loved what he had done! His picture still hangs proudly in his bedroom months later.
It is a great way to spend time with your kids too, showing each other what you have created and best of all you have something to take home and put up from your afternoon together.
These proven benefits of art and mental wellbeing engaging both cognitive and emotional development is something I have had the pleasure of seeing first hand with my own son. We would love to see you and your little ones at one of our classes. We have a number of kids workshops and classes coming up, I have posted the details below.
